Medicinal Mushrooms: contraindications and allergies

DOTT. WALTER ARDIGÒ & DOTT.SSA FRANCESCA ARDIGÒ
“Doctor, do Medicinal Mushrooms have contraindications? What if I'm allergic?”

During the consultations we offer to those who want to improve their quality of life and health with Medicinal Mushrooms, we are asked many questions. Among these, the most common worries are: dosage, using Mycotherapy at the same time as conventional medicines, contraindications, possible side effects and the use of Medicinal Mushrooms in subjects allergic to various substances including pollen, dust, cat or dog hair, nickel, edible mushrooms, etc.

First of all, it is important to know that Medicinal Mushrooms have healing properties which can alleviate and counteract symptoms and pathologies, unlike edible mushrooms which have a good flavour and positive nutritional values, but no healing effects.

Medicinal Mushrooms have been studied by hundreds of researchers in universities and international research centers for more than 50 years. Researchers have demonstrated the important healing effects of Medicinal Mushrooms. They are appreciated all over the world for their benefits and the results achieved by millions of people.

Are there any contraindications and side effects of Medicinal Mushrooms?

The stories and clinical studies of those who have used them have shown that the intake of Medicinal Mushrooms is free of side effects and can be associated with ongoing pharmacological therapies.

They are safe products and have no contraindications, except in one case.

The only contraindication concerns Auricularia which, as a precaution, should not be used during pregnancy. Since it has an extremely relaxing effect, according to some scholars, it could produce excessive relaxation of the uterine muscles, which instead must guarantee a good seal during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, the Auricularia Mushroom can be replaced by Reishi.

Some scholars advise against combining Auricularia with anticoagulant drugs, but really, they are compatible. Auricularia does not alter the value of coagulation parameters (INR, PT and others), it only avoids the formation of pathological clots and respects normal physiological coagulation.

For those who prefer an alternative, also in this case, the solution is Reishi.

The benefits of the other Medicinal Mushrooms can be enjoyed also during pregnancy, whilst trying for a baby, during breastfeeding and in conjunction with anticoagulants.

All 11 known Medicinal Mushrooms, including Auricularia, can be taken successfully and without contraindications or side effects by men, women, children and even animals.

Consultation with an experienced professional is always recommended.

Safety of Medicinal Mushrooms

Some people believe that mushrooms cause allergies or are toxic to the liver.
Well, it's exactly the opposite! Taking Medicinal Mushrooms achieves excellent results in the treatment of liver diseases, including hepatitis. Furthermore, they do not cause allergy, indeed, they are very useful in treating allergies, including allergies to edible mushrooms.

Medicinal Mushrooms do not contain toxins: today we know hundreds of substances contained in Medicinal Mushrooms and they are all beneficial (or inert).

Some people are afraid of these natural remedies. Instead, Medicinal Mushroom Supplements are guaranteed and healthy foods.

They do not cause allergies and are suitable (indeed, recommended!) even for allergy sufferers.

I am allergic to pollen, dust, cat or dog hair, nickel, edible mushrooms, etc. Can I take Medicinal Mushrooms?

All Medicinal Mushrooms can not only be taken without contraindications or side effects even by those who suffer from allergies, but are also beneficial and effective in resolving allergic rhinitis, asthma and both contact and food allergies.

Mycotherapy, thanks to its particular mechanisms of action, is a particularly effective remedy in the treatment of allergic reactions, whatever the offending allergen, as it effectively counteracts the cause, i.e. allergic IgE (Immunoglobulin E).

All these reactions arise from the immune system which, following the interaction between allergic IgE and an allergen (pollen, dust, cat or dog hair, etc.), releasing histamine, produces the typical allergic symptoms we know, such as a runny nose, swollen eyes, eczema, urticaria, angioedema, dermatitis etc.

Shiitake, Maitake, Reishi and Agaricus restore the immune system to good health.

Some scientists have shown that Shiitake (Yamada, 2007), Reishi (Tasaka, 1988a and 1988b; Powell, 2006; Sanodiya, 2009) and Agaricus (Ellertsen, 2009, Hetland, 2008) gradually resolve allergic disease.Furthermore, Reishi has an effectiveness comparable to that of cortisone and antihistamines, but without the annoying and well-known side effects of these drugs.

Thanks to the newfound efficiency of the immune system, there will gradually be no more allergic reactions or the consequent release of histamine. This is why Medicinal Mushrooms are very useful both in the prevention and treatment of asthma and allergies.

Taking Medicinal Mushrooms is beneficial for allergies, but other positive results can also be obtained. In fact, taking Medicinal Mushrooms improves the health of the:

  • Liver;
  • Psyche;
  • Heart;
  • Arteries;
  • Digestive system;
  • Immune system;
  • Skin;
  • Kidney;
  • Psychophysical energy.

With Mycotherapy, positive results are achieved both in the treatment and the prevention of many diseases. There is an increase in well-being, health, and the beauty of hair, skin and nails.
